Our Farm
Springfield comprises of 400 acres of chalk downland pastures interspersed with woodland and abundant flora and fauna.
The pastures are home to our flock of 900 cross bred and Llyen ewes. The flock grazes for the majority of the year, but is bought back to the home farm just before Easter in time for lambing. Lambing at Springfield farm is a very busy time of the year, with all the family taking part in keeping watch, assisting births, and bottle feeding orphaned lambs.
As well as the sheep we rear calves to be sold as store cattle. The bronze turkeys are reared from day olds at the farm and occupy the lambing sheds and graze the home paddocks and orchard. A new enterprise for 2015 is the establishment of a small flock of laying pekin ducks, which we reared from day olds and are now producing an egg each a day..
To help us round up the large number of sheep as well as coax the turkeys in to their barn at night, we have a team of four Border Collies and three small children!
The farm has two comfortable holiday cottages, Springfield Barn and Springfield Cottage, which are run by Richard and Janet Lockwood. They are available for holiday lets weekly Saturday-Saturday throughout the year.
